A sad incident unfolded as a commercial tricyclist decided to end his life following unsuccessful attempts to reclaim his impounded tricycle from government officials in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to reports, the tricyclist was on his way to a destination within the state when he was stopped by officials for an alleged offense.
Subsequently, the officers confiscated the tricycle and transported it to their office near the Jubilee Estate along the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway.
Despite the tricycle operator’s efforts to retrieve his vehicle proving ineffective, he took a drastic step to express his discontent by hanging himself from a tree in front of the compound housing the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, and Vehicle Inspection Officers.
An eyewitness named Prince Excel from Aiyekooto Reporters captured the tragic event in a video, describing it as unfortunate and lamenting the loss of life.
The handwritten note accompanying Excel’s video suggested that the tricyclist resorted to this extreme measure after failing to secure the release of his impounded tricycle.
When approached for comments, the spokesperson for LASTMA, Taofiq Adebayo, stated that the agency had no knowledge of the incident and clarified that no tricycles were seized by their officers in the area.
