Tragic Incident: Footballer Collapses and Passes Away During Osun Match

Tragic event took place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, coinciding with the deceased’s 29th birthday.

A footballer named Maicon Adeyemi Adewale tragically lost his life after collapsing during a match at the Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Football Cup held in Osogbo, Osun State.

Adewale was a player for the Ilesa West Local Government Area team and fell on the pitch during the game. Despite immediate transportation to a hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

This unfortunate event occurred on January 16, 2025, which was also his 29th birthday.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, released a statement confirming the incident on Thursday in Osogbo.



“Today, (Thursday) during the final match of the Adeleke Memorial Cup at Ataoja School of Science, a player named Adeyemi Adewale, aged 29, slumped on the field,” the statement declared.



“He was quickly taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where a doctor confirmed him deceased.”
