A man named Bright Ezechukwu was shot and killed by gunmen less than 24 hours before his wedding in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Reports from Daily Trust indicate that Bright and his companions were en route to pick up Chinwendu on the fateful day when the shooting occurred.
The couple’s wedding was set for Saturday, November 23.
While returning to their home in the Uli community within Ihiala, Bright was fatally attacked by assailants.
Bright’s younger brother shared that: “Bright was taking one of the bridesmaids, while the best man had Bright’s fiancée. They were in a convoy of motorcycles. At Ezego junction in Ihiala, Bright stopped to refuel, unaware it would lead to his demise.”
“His friends riding ahead thought he was behind until they reached Abbott Boys Secondary School. Realizing he was missing, they tried to call his phone but couldn’t reach him.”
“Out of concern, the best man turned back to look for Bright, only to find him shot and lying in a pool of blood at Ezego junction. He had been shot twice in the head near Sky Prince Petrol Station along the Onitsha-Ihiala-Owerri expressway.”
A bystander confirmed that Bright was attacked by two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle.
The witness detailed that the gunmen ordered Bright to stop and surrender all his belongings, including his phone and motorcycle.
“They took everything from him, including the food he had for the wedding night, and then shot him. Bright was a generous individual who would share his food to maintain peace. Even when he begged for his life, stating he was about to marry, they killed him, robbing him of a future filled with joy and love.”
