Tragedy struck in Lagos state as a female biker lost her life on Monday, July 8th, in an accident with a containerised truck around the Iganmu Bridge area.
Reports indicate that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to topple onto the female biker as it descended the bridge.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, from the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, the incident was relayed through an official statement.
The statement revealed that early in the morning, emergency responders, including LASTMA officials, recovered the body of the female biker trapped beneath the loaded truck.
Preliminary findings suggest that the speeding truck driver’s loss of control led to the tragic accident, prompting the driver to flee the scene.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, confirmed the incident occurred around 6:15 am, and efforts were made to rescue the victim and clear the bridge for traffic flow.
Giwa mentioned that the Lagos State Ambulance Service handled the deceased’s body, while the truck was removed to ease traffic congestion.
Security measures were put in place by deploying police officers during the rescue mission.
The governor’s aide extended condolences to the victim’s family and urged truck drivers to observe speed limits within and outside the state.
He also advised motorcycle operators to comply with traffic laws as outlined in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
