Tragic Discovery: Body of Missing Congolese Student Found
The body of Alexandra Martine Diengo Lumbayi, a 21-year-old Congolese student reported missing, was found on the morning of October 8 near the marina on Saint-Quentin Island in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada.
Alexandra, a student at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, had not been seen since October 2, 2024. Her remains were located in the St. Maurice River by a kayaker at around 10:20 a.m.
Authorities found her body situated between a property owned by Kruger Wayagamack Inc. and the marina. A coroner verified her identity later that day, as reported by Radio-Canada.
Her mother, Rosemine Ndjondo, residing in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, notified the police when she hadn’t heard from Alexandra for several days. In a heartfelt TikTok video, she called for help regarding her daughter’s disappearance.
“I cannot eat, drink, or sleep. I don’t know how to live without her,” she expressed, visibly distressed in her appeal.
Local police had been searching for Alexandra since the previous Friday and are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to her death.
Community members from the Congolese, Cameroonian, and Senegalese groups joined the search efforts, actively participating on Sunday and returning to the island on Tuesday morning.
After Alexandra’s body was found, her mother shared her grief.
“I had Alexandra when I was just 17; her father denied my pregnancy, and it was just the two of us ever since,” she recounted.
“I faced rejection from my family and her father. I raised her as both a mother and a father. Despite my struggles, I ensured she attended the best schools in Cameroon, South Africa, and Canada. Losing her at just 21 feels unbearable. She was not just my daughter; she was my greatest treasure. How will I go on without her?”
