Heartbreak struck a family in South Africa as four cousins lost their lives in a devastating school bus crash near Johannesburg. The siblings, two brothers aged 11 and 7 and two sisters aged 12 and 8, were on their way to school when the tragedy occurred.
The Department of Education in Gauteng reported that a total of 11 learners from two different schools, Rocklands Primary School and Laerskool Blyvooruitsig, as well as the driver, lost their lives in the accident that took place in Merafong City. The bus was hit from behind by another vehicle, causing it to overturn and catch fire.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the cause. Officials from various departments visited the bereaved family to offer support and condolences.
Gauteng’s MEC for Roads & Transport emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of learners during transportation, urging both parents and transport providers to prioritize the well-being of children over financial gains.
