A man, whose identity remains unknown, has tragically lost his life due to electrocution while attempting to tamper with a transformer in the Akute region of Ogun State.
Reports from PUNCH Online reveal that the local community has been grappling with ongoing theft and damage to the wiring of their power transformer.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement. She explained that the individual had unlawfully accessed the transformer facility and while trying to sever a wire, he was electrocuted, resulting in his death.
The police were alerted by Rasheed Ajagbe, the chairman of the Irewole community, who reported the incident.
“Around 10:20 am on Friday, the chairman communicated to the police station about the recurring theft and damage involving the electrical wires connected to their transformer,” she noted.
“He mentioned that earlier, at approximately 7 am, he received a notification to check on the transformer and went there with the other officials from the community.”
“Upon their arrival, they discovered the deceased’s body and noted that he had been attempting to vandalize a wire, which led to his electrocution,” the statement elaborated.
Odutola further shared that investigators arrived at the site to gather evidence and document the scene.
“Following the report, detectives proceeded to the scene for investigation and documentation. The PHCN office was informed, and the body was transported to the General Hospital Ifo for autopsy and preservation,” she added.
