UK-based Nigerian Doctor Shares Experience of Unpaid Work at Military Hospital in Lagos, Urges Young People to Relocate if Necessary.

On Wednesday, March 1, Dr. Toluwani Binutu, a Nigerian medical doctor based in London, UK, shared his own Nigerian story on Instagram and urged the youth to consider relocating to other countries where their potential will be appreciated. In his post, Dr. Binutu recalled his experience of working for a Military hospital in Lagos for 12 months without pay. After going on strike and speaking out on national television, the Ministry of Defence eventually released their salaries for 8 out of the 14 months. However, the hospital then banned them from getting signed off for NYSC in retaliation for their actions. This led to Dr. Binutu missing his NYSC batch and sitting at home for 7 months. He eventually relocated to the UK after saving up money and taking loans. In conclusion, he advised the youth not to waste their potential fighting against forces and instead to find a place where their potential will be celebrated.
