The donation of 10,000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine to Nigeria by the United States was acknowledged by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, during the official handover ceremony in Abuja.
Jynneos is an approved vaccine by the Food and Drug Administration specifically for preventing smallpox and mpox in adults aged 18 years and older at risk of mpox infection.
Prof Muhammad Pate expressed gratitude to the US government for the generous donation and highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of Nigerians.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Daju Kachollom, delivered the message on behalf of Prof Muhammad Pate, emphasizing the cooperative efforts in the health sector and the importance of a healthy nation for all citizens.
The minister commended the collaborative support of development partners such as USAID, PEPFAR, WHO, UNICEF, and UN organizations, recognizing the significant impact it will have on those in need.
Addressing the public health concerns and the importance of disease prevention, the Minister emphasized the government’s dedication to transforming the health sector and expressed gratitude for the donation while looking forward to further support in the future.
