In Ibadan, Oyo State, a soldier named Abubakar has been accused of fatally stabbing Olapade Segun, a member of the Nigerian Civil and Security Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, September 20, 2024, at a nightclub located in the Bodija sector of the city.
As reported by Punch, a confrontational exchange took place between Abubakar and Segun, leading Abubakar to pull out his dagger.
Informed sources speaking on the condition of anonymity stated that Abubakar inflicted a stab wound on Segun, causing significant blood loss that resulted in Segun’s death.
The aftermath saw a furious mob attack Abubakar as he attempted to flee the scene.
“A confrontation occurred between a soldier and an NSCDC officer at a nightclub in Bodija, Ibadan. The soldier, infuriated by the argument, used a dagger to stab the NSCDC official, who later succumbed to his injuries. When the soldier tried to escape, he was caught by a mob that severely beat him until his fellow soldiers intervened to rescue him,” revealed a source.
Additionally, another source mentioned that higher-ranking officials from the Nigerian Army have been consulting with the NSCDC’s state command to conduct an investigation into this incident.
“I heard that the Army has initiated a review process as senior officers have been visiting the NSCDC state command to address the situation,” the source noted.
