Wonder Woman 1984‘s trailer set the internet in a golden glow following its debut at Brazil’s CCXP and now it appears Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are exploring ways to further expand the world of the titular hero with a spin-off focusing on her Amazonian home of Themyscira. (via Slash Film)

Brazilian journalist Miguel Morales took to Twitter to reveal the news, with the translated post reading: “Yes, Patty Jenkins confirmed that WB is developing a movie focused on the Amazon! She will not direct, but will work on executive production! No further details.”

Should the film actually get the greenlight and move forward, it would mark the second spin-off focused on a location following its debut in a mainline entry, with a horror-tinge Aquaman spin-off entitled The Trench currently in development surrounding the villainous kingdom. Though it only has producers James Wan and Peter Safran and screenwriters Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald attached, Safran has stated he believes the film will hit theaters before Aquaman 2, which is currently slated for a December 16, 2022 release.

Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah. As previously announced, the film stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Kristen Wiig in the role of the Super-Villain The Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal. Chris Pine also returns as Steve Trevor.

Producer Charles Roven recently commented that Wonder Woman 1984 isn’t a sequel, comparing it to standalone films such as Indiana Jones and James Bond:

“[Patty Jenkins] was just determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel. And she’s definitely delivering on that. It’s a completely different time frame and you’ll get a sense of what Diana-slash–Wonder Woman had been doing in the intervening years. But it’s a completely different story that we’re telling. Even though it’ll have a lot of the same emotional things, a lot of humor, a lot of brave action. Tugs at the heart strings as well.

Patty Jenkins (Wonder WomanMonster) returns to direct the sequel, while Jenkins, Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Stephen Jones and Gal Gadot are producing the film. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are the executive producers.

Set to open in theaters June 5, 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 is based on the character created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
