After the success of the first movie, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, fans were looking forward to To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. Though some viewers did have mixed feelings on the sequel, others still found plenty to love. Take a look at what fans loved about the second movie in the planned trilogy.
What might make ‘To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You’ so lovable
Before taking a look at fan reactions to the sequel, it’s essential to understand what makes these movies so lovable. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before starts out with Lara Jean Covey’s love letters to her former and current crushes getting sent out. To stop her current crush Josh, who also happens to be her sister Margo’s ex-boyfriend, from finding out she likes him, Lara Jean agrees to be in a fake relationship with Peter Kavinsky. Peter is also a recipient of one of the love letters, and for him, the phony relationship has the bonus of making his ex-girlfriend Gen jealous.
Unfortunately, things don’t exactly go as planned. Both parties end up having real feelings for each other and they get together at the end of the movie. That’s where To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You picks up, with Lara Jean and Peter dating for real. Then something happens: John Ambrose McClaren reenters Lara Jean’s life.
John Ambrose is a childhood friend who also received one of Lara Jean’s letters. The two of them reunite while volunteering at the Belleview retirement home. The question on many fans’ minds: team Peter or team John Ambrose? It’s a hard choice, for sure.
In the end, Lara Jean herself chooses Peter. She realizes she loves him after kissing John Ambrose and wishing he was Peter. To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You ends the same way the first one did: with Lara Jean and Peter getting back together. This movie has it all: love triangles, teenage angst, loads of drama, cuteness, fun, and excitement.
The ‘cute’ and ‘fun’ movie that also has ‘real talk’ about important topics
Now that we’ve gone over all the reasons this movie is so lovable let’s let the fans speak for themselves. One fan on Twitter describes it as “cute” and “fun.” While it was “not as good as the first” for this fan, it was still enjoyable. Another fan mentions the way Peter looks at Lara Jean, saying that they want to “find someone who looks at [them] the way Peter Kavinsky looks at Lara Jean.”
Someone else mentions Stormy, the resident of the retirement home Lara Jean becomes friends with, played by Holland Taylor. This fan loves “Stormy…so much.” Another fan talks about the film’s handling of topics such as sex and love. This fan “loved” the movie’s “real talk about sex, expectations, the meaning of love, what it entails, and how it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.”
The same fan goes on to say that To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You is “a pretty accurate way of showing what comes after [the] initial butterflies” in a relationship. Another fan appreciates “the Korean culture” shown in the movie.
