Renowned actor Patrick Doyle believes that a man’s true character is revealed when his dignity is compromised by a painful slight from someone he once had a close relationship with.
In such instances, he advises that the individual should refrain from reacting impulsively and avoid discussing the humiliation on social media.
Recently, Patrick shared an encounter involving his friend, previously married to actress Ireti Doyle. He noted: “A man’s essence is most challenged when faced with a humiliating gesture from a past intimate. In these difficult moments, it’s wise to stay calm, reflect, and turn to a higher power. Importantly, such matters should not be aired in public.”
He cited a Yoruba proverb which means that a husband’s struggles should not be visible through his wife, emphasizing that personal matters between a couple, whether current or former, should stay private.
Patrick expressed concern for a friend who is suffering due to his ex-wife’s actions that seem to demean him, leading him to respond publicly. While he empathizes with his friend’s pain and understands his impulse to react, he stresses that publicizing these feelings magnifies the humiliation and extends the suffering. This should have been a private issue laid before God, who could provide true comfort and restore honor. According to Patrick, no one should have the authority to provoke him into sharing his sorrow for others’ entertainment.
