One of the most well-known Nigerian actors, Jim Iyke has opened up about why his marriage to Dana Kinduryte, a Lithuanian-American lawyer, failed.
Iyke and Kinduryte got married shortly after welcoming Harvis, their son, in 2015.
Last year, the actor revealed he is divorced from his wife and has three children.
Iyke admitted to shielding his family affairs from the public.
In a chat with Toke Makinwa on TikTok, Iyke opened up about the reason he and Kinduryte separated.
The actor explained that he struggled to connect emotionally with his wife after he lost his mother in 2014.
He said he only focused a lot on being a parent and did not reciprocate Kinduryte’s love.
He added that he refused to seek help for his grief, which only made his struggles worse.
“I was dealing with two parallels that I could not contain. I just lost my mum so I was in a place where I did not know how to manage these emotions this woman was giving me,” he said.
“She needed to love me and I will love her back and I did not and I could not reciprocate. I turned all my attention to our child.
“So, it is entirely my fault but then I was also a child of circumstances, I was dealing with two parallels that I did not know how to merge them.
“I did not allow myself the luxury of grief but it cost me because at the end of the day when everybody survived, I started struggling.
“My wife was trying to get me to see a therapist. I was like, ‘are you crazy? I have never been with one’.
“She was trying to get a reciprocal for the love she was giving in the union but it did not work.”
