Will the ‘Fantastic Four’ Make {Their} Marvel Cinematic Universe Debut in ‘Captain Marvel 2’?

Marvel may have just figured out how to introduce the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans have been wondering how the studio would bring Fox’s old franchises into the fold ever since Disney purchased the company last year. If inside sources are correct, Marvel will be introducing the Fantastic Four alongside Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in Captain Marvel 2.

Marvel to introduce new franchises in Phase 4

Last summer, Marvel announced all of the projects that are slated to open in theaters over the next two years. The studio also unveiled its ambitious plan to expand its universe to the small screens, giving several superheroes their own TV shows on Disney+.

While these new projects are very exciting, Disney had just bought out Fox when Marvel announced the Phase 4 lineup. This meant that newly acquired franchises, like Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool, would not be included in Phase 4.

Luckily, it does not sound like fans will have to wait too long for some of these franchises to be introduced to the MCU.

Ryan Reynolds has already confirmed that Deadpool 3 is under development, and inside sources now claim that Marvel has a plan for featuring Fantastic Four in an upcoming project.

Fantastic Four are set to debut in ‘Captain Marvel 2’

Among all of the Marvel franchises Fox owned, Fantastic Four was probably its biggest flop. At times, X-Men gave it a run for its money, but the superhero team’s track record is hard to match.

With that in mind, fans have been looking forward to seeing what Marvel does with the failed franchise. Although the studio has not confirmed any of the reports, an insider told We Got This Covered that the Fantastic Four will be unveiled in Captain Marvel 2.

The source claims that Larson’s sequel will be set in the Quantum Realm, which is where Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben have been hanging out.

The insider did not have any specific details to share about the team’s debut but introducing them in the Quantum Realm makes sense. Unfortunately, Marvel has yet to confirm a premiere date for the project, though the summer of 2022 is a likely opening date.

What about the Fantastic Four in ‘Ant-Man 3’?

Marvel has been tight-lipped about upcoming projects, but we do know that Ant-Man 3 is slated for a release in 2022. Filming for the project is expected to get underway in the summer of 2021, with Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and director Peyton Reed returning.

With Ant-Man being the franchise that introduced the Quantum Realm to the MCU, there has been a lot of speculation that the Fantastic Four will debut in Scott Lang and Hank Pym’s next outing.

A fan theory suggests that the team has been stuck in the Quantum Realm for years and that Scott will mount a rescue mission to free them from the clutches of Kang the Conqueror.

Marvel has not said anything about the movie’s plot, so fans will have to wait until we get closer to production to find out what happens.

John Krasinski opens up about the ‘Fantastic Four’

Speaking of fan theories, there has been growing support for Marvel casting A Quiet Place Part II star John Krasinski to play the part of Mr. Fantastic. Casting for the Fantastic Four has not started, but Krasinski recently told SyFy that he would love the opportunity to join the MCU.

“I’d totally be open to that,” he shared. “I love the Marvel Universe, I love watching those movies. They’re such a great time and so well done. I always say, ‘In Kevin Feige I trust.’ He’s such a smart guy, I would never pretend to know what he’s thinking. But if he’s thinking about it, I’d be psyched.”

Krasinski was also asked about potentially helming the Fantastic Four reboot. Although the actor/director is open to the challenge, he also admitted that he does not want to “mess with the formula” that has made the MCU so successful.

Fans have also called for Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt, to play The Invisible Woman. Blunt was less enthusiastic about the idea than her husband, though she did say that she would consider the role if the script was good.

“I dunno! For me, it’s all script-dependent, part-dependent,” Blunt stated. “I don’t ever think I’m going to sign onto something in a hypothetical way.”

While fans wait to hear more about the Fantastic Four, the first movie in Phase 4 of the MCU, Black Widow, has officially been delayed. The studio has yet to reveal when the film will hit theaters, but it should be out sometime this year.
