On the new NBC musical comedy-drama Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Jane Levy plays a coding specialist who develops the ability to hear people’s thoughts as pop songs. This irreverent premise gives the cast the opportunity to engage in lavish musical numbers. But the series also balances its quirky side with a ton of heart.
Those two tones might seem difficult to balance. But with Levy in the lead, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has been quickly developing a devoted fan base. For some, Levy is a real discovery. But for others, she’s a consistently strong performer only now getting the attention she deserves. If you’re eager to see more of Levy, look no further than your favorite streaming service.
The star of ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ might look familiar
Before we get to Levy’s movies now available to stream, we should touch on her extensive experience on the small screen. Although the actress launched her career with a five-episode stint on Shameless, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is far from her first main role on TV.
In fact, Levy has been a regular cast member on no fewer than four series. She headlined ABC’s Suburgatory from 2011 to 2014. Then from 2017 to 2019, she’s been a major part of the ensemble casts for web series There’s… Johnny!, Hulu’s Castle Rock, and Netflix’s What/If.
With Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, fans are hoping she’s found a series she can stick with for a while. NBC has certainly been marketing the show pretty heavily. But we still don’t know whether it will be renewed for season 2.
Several Jane Levy movies are available to stream
As far as Levy’s film work, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist fans have plenty to choose from. Since 2012, the actress has appeared in 13 films, and roughly half of those are available to stream right now, according to JustWatch. Perhaps the most accessible of these is the 2017 thriller I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. As a Netflix original, it’s only available to subscribers.
If you have Amazon Prime Video, you’re in for a trio of Levy performances. Two 2014 releases — About Alex and Bang Bang Baby — are available on Prime Video. The latter in particular will appeal to fans of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, since it too is a musical. In addition, 2012’s teen comedy Fun Size is streaming on Prime Video, Hulu, DirecTV, and Epix.
Finally, we come to perhaps Levy’s two most popular films. In 2013, she became a horror icon when she took on the role of Mia in director Fede Álvarez’ Evil Dead remake. The film is available to stream on DirecTV as well as edited for television on Syfy and USA. Then Levy reteamed with Álvarez for another horror film, 2016’s Don’t Breathe, only on FXNow.
Jane Levy is also attached to a sequel to her biggest hit
With a worldwide box office total of $157 million, Don’t Breathe is also Levy’s biggest financial hit to date. Due to its $9.9 million budget, the film currently has a sequel in development, with Levy reprising her role. Titled Don’t Breathe Again, the film is set for release in the fall of 2021.
Given that Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has just started, we don’t know yet how the show can help Levy’s career grow even more successful. The show is a tremendous showcase of everything she’s capable of. So here’s hoping it can prove to be the launchpad to more film and TV projects for Levy.
