Carlo Ancelotti discussed Real Madrid’s current challenges following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to AC Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu.
This match marked the team’s first appearance since suffering a heavy 4-0 loss against Barcelona, exacerbating their ongoing struggles.
Vinicius Junior, the Ballon d’Or runner-up, equalized with a penalty in the first half after Malick Thiaw had opened the scoring. However, a mistake by Aurelien Tchouameni allowed Alvaro Morata to score for the seventh time against his old team.
Tchouameni faced criticism from the Bernabeu crowd after the mistake, and overall, the team delivered a poor performance. Jude Bellingham was substituted before Tijjani Reijnders secured the win for AC Milan.
Ancelotti expressed concern to Movistar, stating, “We need to be worried as the team hasn’t performed well in recent matches. We lack defensive solidity, and that’s an area we must improve.”
“We’re not defending effectively as a cohesive unit. We need to be more organized and compact. We concede too many goals,” he added.
“Our focus must be on the present. We aren’t at our best and must rediscover that form to compete in all tournaments.”
The new format of the Champions League is lenient for teams facing early difficulties. However, as they reach the mid-point of the league phase, Real Madrid holds a record of two wins and two losses, including a setback against Lille.
Los Blancos previously fell behind 2-0 only to come back and defeat Borussia Dortmund 5-2. With a challenging match against Liverpool at Anfield on the horizon, Ancelotti, a five-time Champions League winner, will need to lean on his vast experience to steer the campaign away from crisis.
