Arsenal Gains Edge as Man United Withdraws from Gyokeres Chase

Arsenal face fresh rival as Man United exit Viktor Gyokeres transfer race image

Arsenal is gearing up for another attempt in their relentless quest to sign Sporting CP’s standout player, Viktor Gyokeres, during this summer transfer window.

The Swedish forward has been frequently mentioned in transfer talks regarding a move away from Lisbon following another remarkable season at the Estádio José Alvalade.

Having netted 43 goals in 50 appearances in his inaugural 2023/24 campaign, the 27-year-old outdid himself in 2024/25, registering an impressive 54 goals in 52 matches.

Mikel Arteta has identified the former Coventry City striker as his top priority, and the Gunners have received a significant boost in their pursuit.

According to reports from Portuguese source Record, Gyokeres has turned down Manchester United’s interest, feeling uncertain about the project at Old Trafford, with Arsenal being described as his ‘dream club.’

Arteta is now set to focus on securing Gyokeres, although Benjamin Sesko remains on the radar following fruitful discussions with RB Leipzig – but Atletico Madrid is positioned to step in if Arsenal fails to finalize a deal with Sporting CP.

Will Arsenal finalize the deal for Gyokeres?

Reports indicate that Arsenal’s previous two offers for Gyokeres have been rejected, as they did not meet the expectations of his current club regarding their valued player.

Sporting CP is believed to be seeking over €68m [$92m] for Gyokeres, following his prolific tally of 97 goals in 102 appearances for the club. Although this sum surpasses Arsenal’s present budget, they are inching closer through ongoing negotiations.

Nevertheless, a considerable gap still remains between the two teams’ valuations, with Arsenal’s previous offers amounting to around €47m [$64m] plus €8.5m [$11.5m] in potential add-ons.

If the situation doesn’t change in Lisbon, Arteta might intensify efforts to pursue Sesko, whose rumored release clause stands at £50m [$68m], which could increase to £66m [$89m] based on performance incentives.
