Chelsea faced Celtic in their second pre-season friendly and coach Enzo Maresca fielded a strong team featuring stars like Benoit Badiashile, Reece James, and Christopher Nkunku. However, the Blues suffered a 4-1 defeat despite the lineup.
One of the bright spots in the game was 18-year-old summer signing Marc Guiu, who showed promise on the field. Guiu, signed from Barcelona for £5 million, showcased his talent and potential in the match.
Guiu, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, made a notable debut last season for the Catalans, scoring within 23 seconds of coming on as a substitute against Athletic Bilbao.
Unlike Chelsea’s usual practice of sending young players on loan for development, Maresca hinted that Guiu might have a role to play in the upcoming season due to his impressive pre-season performances.
Maresca stated: “The idea with Marc, with all the young players, is to assess them during pre-season and then decide together.”
“I think Marc is performing well, and at the moment, he’s likely to remain with us.”
Although Maresca didn’t confirm Chelsea’s rumored signings of Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors and Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal, he praised both players for their quality.
Regarding the potential signings, Maresca said: “They are still Boca Juniors and Villarreal players. When they join us, we will provide more information. I know both of them, and they are very talented.”
