After last year’s record-breaking transfer window, the Premier League is witnessing more restrained spending this season.
In comparison to last year’s £2 billion spending, clubs have spent around £1.8 billion this year, with a noticeable decrease in net spend.
Unlike the enormous £1.05 billion net spend of last summer, this year’s net spend is just over half of that amount.
Despite still surpassing many European leagues in spending, the Premier League has shown more restraint in the transfer market, influenced by the impact of the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

2024/25 Premier League Clubs’ Transfer Spending
Chelsea leads the spending ranks, surpassing £200 million this season, while also offsetting it with substantial sales, resulting in the fifth-highest net spend in the league.
Brighton has also seen a significant increase in spending, profiting from previous high-value sales like Moises Caicedo and Ben White. Newly promoted teams, Ipswich and Southampton, have each spent around £100 million.
Manchester City and Liverpool, being dominant forces in recent years, have shown the lowest expenditure figures, with Arsenal spending less than some promoted clubs. This emphasizes the importance of having strong, established squads during a subdued market.

Most expensive Premier League transfers 2024/25
Chelsea’s dynamic activity in the transfer market saw them secure two of the top five signings – Pedro Neto and Joao Feix. Manchester United focused on bolstering their defense with the signings of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt after Erik ten Hag’s contract extension.
Tottenham’s acquisition of Dominic Solanke as a replacement for Harry Kane marked the most expensive transfer of the season. Manchester City’s positive net spend was mainly due to Julian Alvarez’s record sale to Atletico Madrid.
Top outgoing sales by Premier League clubs include deals with Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Bayern Munich, the latter making remarkable acquisitions last year with Harry Kane. Whether this trend continues or the Premier League regains parity with the new Profit and Sustainability Rules era remains uncertain.
