Erik Ten Hag Considered for Roma Manager Role

Erik ten Hag, the former Manchester United manager, could soon see himself back in high-level football management as he is reportedly a candidate for the managerial position at AS Roma in Serie A.

Current turmoil surrounds the Italian team, which has recently parted ways with coach Ivan Juric following a 3-2 loss to Bologna. Juric’s departure comes on the heels of the termination of Daniele de Rossi’s contract earlier this season, a role he held for just eight months after stepping in for José Mourinho.

Roma currently holds the 12th position in the Serie A standings, prompting the club’s American owners, the Friedkins, to look for their third manager within this season. Erik ten Hag’s name has emerged as a potential option.

According to the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, both ten Hag and former Chelsea and Brighton coach Graham Potter are under consideration for the role at Roma.

Other candidates reportedly being evaluated include Frank Lampard, who has not managed since leaving Everton in 2023, and Edin Terzic, who led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season.

Rudi Garcia, who previously managed Roma from 2013 to 2016 and has also taken charge of clubs like Marseille, Lyon, and Napoli, is also a potential candidate for the position.

The international break in November is often viewed as an ideal period for teams to enact managerial changes, giving new coaches the opportunity to acclimate to their roles and evaluate their teams.

It remains unclear if Ten Hag would be interested in taking the Roma job so soon after his departure from Manchester United last month. Ruud van Nistelrooy has stepped in as interim manager at United, achieving three wins and a draw in four matches. Ruben Amorim is now set to take over after his transition from Sporting Lisbon, shortly after Van Nistelrooy’s own departure.
