Euro 2024 Golden Boot Tiebreaker

Who wins Euro 2024 Golden Boot in case of a tie? How top scorer works if players finish with same number of goals

The Euro 2024 tournament has been full of surprises, with favorites not making a significant impact as we progressed into the knockout stages. The competition for the Golden Boot intensified with several players in contention.

Georges Mikautadze of Georgia led the goal-scoring charts with three goals after the group matches. However, Cody Gakpo from the Netherlands, Jamal Musiala from Germany, Ivan Schranz from Slovakia, Harry Kane from England, and Dani Olmo from Spain have now caught up with three goals each. Kane and Olmo are the only ones left in the tournament.

In the past, tiebreakers for top goal scorers at major tournaments like the Euros or World Cup were determined by assists and minutes played in case of equal goals. However, UEFA has introduced a new rule for Euro 2024, as explained by Sporting News.

Euro 2024 Golden Boot Winner in Case of a Tie

As we head into the final match in Berlin, Harry Kane from England and Dani Olmo from Spain are tied at the top with three goals each.

Traditionally, Olmo would have been leading due to having two assists compared to Kane’s none. However, UEFA has specified that if players finish with the same number of goals, the Golden Boot will be shared in Euro 2024.

If Kane and Olmo fail to score in the final and no other player surpasses them, the Golden Boot will be shared between the six players with three goals each.

Kane has had a varied tournament, contributing crucial goals for England despite playing in deeper positions, including a contentious penalty against the Netherlands. A win would make this his second Golden Boot after the 2018 World Cup.

Olmo, on the other hand, has been clinical for Spain off the bench, propelling them to the final with his goal-scoring exploits.
