Extreme weather conditions in Dortmund caused the suspension of the Euro 2024 match between Germany and Denmark.
The game was paused in the first half due to thunder and lightning in close proximity to Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park stadium.
Referee Michael Oliver stopped the match, moved the players to the touchline, and discussed the situation with competition officials to determine the appropriate response. Subsequently, he led everyone off the pitch and into the tunnel.

Reason for Suspension
The Round of 16 encounter between Germany and Denmark in Euro 2024 was suspended due to the imminent danger posed by an approaching storm in the area.
Lightning and thunder were followed by rain, and later hail. Water was visibly streaming off the stadium roof after the players and staff were escorted indoors.
At the time of suspension, with the scoreline at 0-0, the game is expected to recommence once the storm subsides. As per former FIFA referee Christina Unkel’s comments on ITV, the typical protocol is to resume play after 30 minutes have elapsed since the most recent lightning strike near the stadium.
