In his inaugural home match as manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim achieved an exciting 3-2 victory against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. However, he faces more challenging opponents in the future.
Owen Hargreaves, a former Manchester United player, has raised concerns regarding the team’s tactical arrangement, warning that Amorim’s midfield setup might be susceptible when facing teams like Arsenal and Manchester City.
Amorim’s first win featured goals from Alejandro Garnacho and two from Rasmus Hojlund, highlighting the team’s fighting spirit.
Nonetheless, Hargreaves cautioned that depending solely on Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte in midfield could expose United to stronger teams.
Facing Arsenal and Manchester City: A Real Challenge for Amorim
In comments made to TNT Sports, Hargreaves emphasized that despite the talent within the squad, they may lack the necessary athleticism to fit Amorim’s style of play.
“Having just two players in midfield against Arsenal or City will be exceedingly difficult,” he stated.
He proposed that Amorim consider adding a third midfielder or utilizing one of the attacking midfielders in a more defensive role to mitigate these risks.
Despite these worries, Hargreaves acknowledged Amorim’s talent for nurturing young players, pointing out Kobbie Mainoo as someone who could bolster the midfield once he regains full fitness.
With Arsenal set to visit Old Trafford next Wednesday, Amorim is under pressure to devise an effective strategy.
While United demonstrated resilience in their Europa League match, the challenges posed by top Premier League teams will require more adaptive tactics.
