Harry Kane, the captain of the England national football team, has shared his thoughts on the speculation surrounding Thomas Tuchel potentially taking over as head coach of the Three Lions. He expressed his willingness to provide insights to the Football Association regarding the appointment of the German coach.
Recent reports suggest that Tuchel is now the leading candidate for the England job, as Lee Carsley currently fills the role on an interim basis after Gareth Southgate stepped down post-Euro 2024.
Southgate guided England to two recent finals in 2021 and 2024, and achieved semi-final and quarter-final placements in the World Cups of 2018 and 2022 respectively.
It’s been indicated that Tuchel, who is currently without a job, is in significant discussions to replace Southgate on a permanent basis. He previously coached Bayern Munich, where Kane played, but was dismissed at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
Additionally, Tuchel has been mentioned in connection with Manchester United amid rumors that Erik ten Hag’s position may soon be threatened. However, Kane appears to support the idea of playing under Tuchel for the national side and addressed the ongoing rumors during a recent press interaction.

Kane told Sky’s Torben Hoffmann, “I can’t say much until an official announcement is made, but we’ll see how things unfold. I know Thomas well from last season—he’s an excellent coach and a great person. I’m sure the FA will reach out to me when they have more information.”
During Tuchel’s tenure at Bayern, Kane scored an impressive 44 goals in 45 appearances. However, the team did not secure any trophies that season, losing the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen; it marked the first time since 2012 that Bayern missed out on the league title.
