Jurgen Klopp is set to return to football, but not in a coaching capacity. The ex-Liverpool manager will assume the position of head of global soccer for Red Bull starting January 1, 2025.

After his departure from Liverpool in May 2024, Klopp will manage Red Bull’s array of clubs, which includes RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls, and Red Bull Bragantino from Brazil.

In this new role, Klopp will not be on the sidelines delivering his beloved hugs; instead, he will focus on steering the overall strategy for the clubs, assisting sporting directors, and providing guidance to coaches.

Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has expressed great enthusiasm over the appointment, lauding Klopp as “one of the greatest and most influential figures in world soccer.”

Klopp’s Excitement for a New Chapter

For supporters of Liverpool, this signifies Klopp’s “second act” following his legendary tenure at Anfield, where he achieved the sought-after Premier League title alongside trophies like the Champions League and FA Cup.

Although he won’t be on the field daily, Klopp remains deeply passionate about the sport. He shared, “After 25 years on the sideline, I’m thrilled to be involved in a project like this.”

He remarked, “While my role has evolved, my love for football and its community hasn’t changed.”

“Joining Red Bull globally allows me to foster and enhance the remarkable football talent available to us. We can leverage Red Bull’s exceptional knowledge and experiences, alongside insights from various sports and industries.”

“Together, we can explore new possibilities. I view my position mainly as a mentor to coaches and managers at Red Bull clubs, but I am part of a unique, innovative organization that looks forward. I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity.”

Interestingly, Klopp has a clause in his contract, allowing him to leave if the German national team head coach position opens after the 2026 World Cup. Liverpool fans may still hold out hope that this won’t be his final destination.

As Klopp embarks on this new venture with Red Bull, it may not be Anfield, but it’s likely to be an exciting chapter nonetheless.
