Liverpool sets deadline for Martin Zubimendi transfer, offers new contract

Liverpool set 48-hour Martin Zubimendi transfer deadline as fresh contract offered

Liverpool is making significant progress in their pursuit of Real Sociedad’s midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Zubimendi has emerged as Liverpool’s top midfield target, but negotiations have faced challenges with Real Sociedad holding out for his €60m release clause.

Despite the initial attempts to structure a deal, Liverpool is ready to meet the full release clause amount, and reports suggest Zubimendi will need to trigger the clause to initiate the sale process.

Amidst ongoing discussions and Zubimendi’s indecision about leaving his childhood club, Liverpool has set a deadline of August 14 for any potential transfer.

If an agreement is not reached by this date, Liverpool is prepared to walk away from the deal, as reported by Basque outlet Noticias de Gizpukoa.

Real Sociedad has responded by offering Zubimendi an improved contract with a significant salary increase in an attempt to retain him.

Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, aims to have clarity on Zubimendi’s decision before their first game of the Premier League season on August 17 against Ipswich Town.

If Zubimendi chooses to stay at San Sebastian, Liverpool will explore other midfield options before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
