Liverpool Sets Sights on Borussia Dortmund’s Rising Star Jamie Gittens

Arne Slot has ambitious plans to enhance Liverpool’s attacking squad in 2025 by targeting Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

Slot has dispatched scouts to observe the London-born winger’s recent performances for both his club and the England U21 team.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the promising English talents in the Bundesliga after leaving Manchester City in 2020 for more playing time.

Though he faced initial challenges in Dortmund, coach Nuri Sahin has integrated Gittens into the starting lineup, where the former City player has started to shine in the season’s early matches.

Potential Transfer Details for Jamie Gittens

According to reports from the German media outlet Bild, Liverpool is keen on acquiring Gittens, with Slot looking to outpace Chelsea and Tottenham in the transfer race.

The winger’s contract at Signal Iduna Park runs until 2028, and he is valued at approximately £40 million ($52 million). However, Dortmund might set a higher price if interest from other clubs escalates.

Gittens’ Playing Style and Impact

Slot’s pursuit of Gittens is seen as a part of Liverpool’s long-term strategy, especially as the club prepares for transitions after Jurgen Klopp’s era.

Mohamed Salah is in the final year of his contract, while Barcelona is also showing ongoing interest in Luis Diaz, indicating a shift is imminent.

Gittens primarily plays on the left wing, similar to Diaz, but is capable of filling in on the right wing, where Salah plays.

Although Gittens is often compared to Jadon Sancho, they differ in significant aspects; Sancho had a more potent scoring record with 50 goals over four seasons in the Bundesliga, while Gittens excels more as a creative player, utilizing his speed to generate scoring opportunities.

Gittens has netted six goals in 50 Bundesliga appearances, but he ranks among the league’s top five for successful dribbles and progressive ball carries in the current 2024/25 season.
