The captain of Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk, has shared significant news regarding his discussions for a contract extension at Anfield.
Despite being at the top of the Premier League after a recent 2-1 victory over Chelsea, contracts are a major topic among Liverpool fans.
Van Dijk’s current contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, alongside prominent players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.
Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness believes that Van Dijk is the most likely out of the three to secure an extension, particularly as there are rumors linking Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.
All three players will be able to discuss free transfers with non-Premier League teams starting in 2024, but any potential transfers won’t be finalized until the summer.
As fans await further updates, Van Dijk has affirmed that talks are underway, with the club hopeful for a resolution before the close of 2024.
“I feel really good, both physically and mentally, and I’m enjoying it. What the future holds is uncertain, but discussions are in progress, and when a decision is reached, I’m sure you (the media) will find out as well,” he stated, as reported by BBC Sport.
“I can only confirm that talks have started, and we will see how it goes. My primary focus is on Liverpool and winning the upcoming games.”
