Man Utd Rapidly Expands Center Forward Replacement List

Man Utd add Premier League center forward to shortlist of replacements image

Manchester United continues its search for a forward, as Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee did not make a strong impression last season.

Ruben Amorim has brought in Matheus Cunha to bolster the offense, while still pursuing Bryan Mbeumo despite previous unsuccessful offers.

With talk of Højlund possibly transferring, United is considering various replacements for the Danish player should he depart.

Amorim insists on acquiring strikers who have proven themselves in the Premier League, as past recruits from abroad haven’t always met expectations.

Who has Amorim targeted for his center-forward needs?

As reported by The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, Manchester United has set its sights on Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins should Højlund move on.

Watkins has attracted interest from multiple Premier League teams, including Arsenal, who attempted to sign him in January, but Villa remained resolute in keeping their striker.

Having netted 16 goals in the league this season, Watkins has consistently scored over 10 goals each year during his time with Villa. United has faced challenges in finding a reliable forward, and Watkins could be the solution they need.

Højlund managed only four goals in the Premier League, and selling him could provide funds for Watkins, with Villa’s asking price around £60 million. Additionally, the potential departures of several wingers could strengthen United’s financial position.

Watkins still has three years left on his contract with Villa, but Unai Emery is reportedly interested in Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson as a reinforcement, which may indicate he expects to lose Watkins soon.
