Fans are left in suspense regarding Lionel Messi’s future for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Argentine star, who celebrated victory with his team in Qatar 2022, has indicated that he hasn’t finalized any plans for the next tournament.

Messi Puts Happiness First

During an acceptance speech for the America Award from MARCA, the Inter Miami player stressed that his primary concern is maintaining his happiness and health.

“I haven’t aimed for the World Cup,” Messi mentioned.

“I prefer not to rush the future or dwell too much on it. My focus is on enjoying each day. I hope to continue playing at this level to feel good and happy.”

At the age of 37, Messi boasts an illustrious career. Winning the World Cup in 2022 completed his list of achievements, a milestone many believed would signify his retirement from international play.

Although Messi hasn’t completely dismissed the idea of competing in 2026, he offers a slight hope for fans to witness him on the global stage one more time.

“We will see when the time comes. I prefer not to think too far ahead,” he added.

Despite now playing for Inter Miami in the U.S., his performance level remains exceptional.

He recently recorded his 58th hat-trick for Argentina and helped his club secure the MLS Supporters’ Shield, demonstrating his continuous desire for success.

Throughout his outstanding career, Lionel Messi has amassed 48 significant trophies, but he continues to seek more victories.

With Inter Miami set to face the New England Revolution in their final Eastern Conference match this weekend, Messi will shift his attention towards the playoffs.

His goal is to make history by guiding the Herons to their inaugural MLS Cup championship.

While the possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup is still alive, Messi’s primary intention is to live in the present and savor the sport he adores.

For now, supporters will have to be patient to see if the football legend will participate once more in the tournament.
