Real Madrid Targets Chelsea Star for Modric’s Replacement

Who will replace Luka Modric as Real Madrid captain? image

Real Madrid is reportedly eyeing Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez as a possible successor to Luka Modric.

With the Croatian icon announcing his departure from Los Blancos at the season’s end, the club is promptly seeking a replacement.

As per Cadenaser, two midfield candidates have emerged on Madrid’s radar: Fernandez and fellow Argentine Exequiel Palacios from Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite growing rumors of a potential transfer for Fernandez, Chelsea is unlikely to release him unless Madrid exceeds the £106.8 million ($143 million) that Chelsea paid Benfica for him in 2023.

Interestingly, chatter about the 24-year-old’s desire to join Santiago Bernabeu intensified after he mentioned his favorite team in EA FC.

The report also suggests that Madrid is hoping Chelsea’s failure to secure a Europa Conference League title against Real Betis will influence Fernandez’s decision to leave Stamford Bridge.

Furthermore, Spanish sources indicate that Fernandez has tentatively agreed on personal terms with Madrid and is exploring housing options in the city in anticipation of his potential transfer.

However, Madrid’s ambition to secure Fernandez as Modric’s replacement hinges on negotiating a deal with Chelsea.

Given that Chelsea acquired him for a staggering £106.8 million and that his contract runs until 2032, it’s improbable they will rush into any negotiations.

Nonetheless, this situation is one to monitor closely as the summer transfer window approaches.
