Manchester United is entering a new chapter as Ruben Amorim steps in as the club’s new manager, creating quite a stir among analysts and fans alike.
One of the significant obstacles Amorim will face is the scrutiny from prominent commentators, many of whom have a legacy at the club.
Among these pundits is Rio Ferdinand, who has criticized Amorim for the decision to allow Ruud van Nistelrooy to leave the team.
Van Nistelrooy’s departure comes after a commendable four-match stint as interim manager, during which the club also released Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel. Amorim plans to bring in his own team, choosing not to keep Van Nistelrooy or the other coaches from Erik ten Hag’s setup.
Discussing Van Nistelrooy’s performance, Ferdinand stated on Rio Reacts: “His time in charge could not have gone better, and I sensed his strong resolve to assert himself, whether to remain involved with the club or to attract interest for a managerial role elsewhere. He certainly showed his capabilities.”
“The players needed leadership during a chaotic period where relationships with the previous manager seemed irreparable. Upon the new manager’s arrival, there was typically an uplift in spirit, but this felt distinctly more impactful.”
“The players developed a genuine fondness for him and recognized the value of his tactical insights, both individually and as a unit. There was a true commitment to perform well under his guidance.”
Only time will tell if Amorim’s choice to release Van Nistelrooy proves wise. During his brief tenure, Van Nistelrooy led the team to two victories against Leicester, a Europa League win over PAOK, and a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the league.
