Tottenham’s Vicario Suffers Ankle Injury After Victory Over Man City
Tottenham Hotspur fans celebrated an impressive 4-0 win against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, but their joy was short-lived with the announcement of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s serious injury.
The 28-year-old keeper has had surgery on a fractured ankle, which will sideline him for an extended period as manager Ange Postecoglou’s squad navigates a season filled with challenges ahead of the halfway point.
In a social media update, Vicario shared a remarkable aspect of his situation.
“Football can bring extraordinary highs, but also unexpected challenges,” Vicario shared on Instagram.
“I played for 60 minutes at the Etihad with a fractured ankle, giving it my all for the team.”
This means he managed an hour of gameplay despite the injury, a notable achievement, especially against a team like Guardiola’s City.
While Vicario managed to keep a clean sheet, he also acknowledged the gravity of his condition in his post.
“There’s no avoiding this; surgery was necessary,” he mentioned. “I’m disappointed not to be able to support the team for a while. Thank you to the medical team; the operation went well, and starting tomorrow, I will work diligently to return stronger and fitter, ready to give my best again for all of you.” He expressed his gratitude to the Spurs fans for their support and looks forward to returning to the pitch soon.
This injury might prompt Spurs to seek a temporary goalkeeper in the upcoming January transfer window, but for now, Postecoglou will have to tap into his existing squad to fill Vicario’s position for at least the next five weeks.
