Biden cut short his weekend retreat and returned to the White House to stay updated on the situation. He and Vice President Kamala Harris are set to receive a briefing from homeland security and law enforcement officials on Sunday.
Earlier, he addressed the nation from a briefing room in Delaware, equipped for quick communication during his trips. Biden was attending a church service at the time of the incident and was briefed afterward by his aides.
Some Republicans have blamed Biden and his supporters, linking the incident to their portrayal of Trump as a threat to democracy. They highlighted a previous statement by Biden which they claim has contributed to escalating violence.
