Footage of the Zanu-PF chairman for Mutasa district in Zimbabwe assaulting his wife over a $5 sum meant for his beer has been widely shared on social media.
The video captures a disturbing physical altercation between the chairman, whose identity has not been disclosed, and his wife, both visibly injured with blood coming from the mouth.
In the background, a woman can be heard pleading for the violent encounter to stop, but unfortunately, her pleas seem to fall on deaf ears. The video indicates deeper underlying issues beyond the monetary dispute.
Farai Marapira, Zanu-PF’s director of information, condemned the actions depicted in the video in response to the incident. He reiterated the ruling party’s stand against violence, echoing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s strong stance on the issue.
“The video clearly shows domestic violence, which is unacceptable. Zanu-PF has a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of violence, in line with President E. D. Mnangagwa’s repeated statements. We denounce any form of violence and urge all citizens, including our members, to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts,” stated Marapira.
He reassured the public that Zanu-PF would carry out an internal investigation into the matter and work closely with law enforcement authorities.
“Our party conducts thorough probes into allegations of misconduct by our members. Zanu-PF holds its members to high standards of legal compliance. We strongly condemn such behavior and will respect the outcomes of police investigations,” Marapira emphasized.
This incident sheds light on the persistent issue of domestic violence in Zimbabwean communities, underscoring the urgent need for prompt and resolute action to tackle such challenges.
