Thirteen Boko Haram Members Flee with Weapons

Thirteen former members of the notorious Boko Haram group have reportedly escaped, taking with them firearms and motorcycles provided by the Borno State government.

According to reports from Premiumtimes, these individuals are part of a larger group of ex-fighters and their families who had surrendered to authorities and were integrated into military efforts to combat insurgency.

The escapees, who were secured in a military camp located in Mafa, managed to leave their post during the night of September 1 and 2.

Malik Samuel, a researcher familiar with jihadist movements in northeastern Nigeria and the surrounding Lake Chad region, indicated that the first group of eight left on September 1, with five more following the day after.

The escapees communicated with Abdullahi Ishaq, a governmental advisor on security, where they allegedly issued threats of renewed violence.

After their escape, jubilant individuals shared a video showcasing their firearms.

As of now, the state government has not publicly addressed this situation.
