Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori has shared insights about adjusting to life in London, particularly highlighting an interesting method he’s using to enhance his English skills.
The young Italian player had a standout first season with Serie A team Bologna in 2023/24, helping the team achieve their inaugural UEFA Champions League qualification.
His solid performances in defense and impressive contributions to the Italian national team during UEFA Euro 2024 caught the attention of Mikel Arteta, leading to Arsenal’s significant £42m ($55m) transfer acquisition for the 22-year-old.
Though minor injuries delayed his Premier League debut, Calafiori recently played in Arsenal’s last six matches prior to the October international break, as Arteta gradually introduces him to the left-back position.
To adapt to life in England, Calafiori expressed his eagerness to improve his English rapidly and has adopted a unique approach to learning the language.
“I’ve been learning English since childhood. I started with Netflix, some song lyrics, and a bit of UK drill music too!” he told BBC presenter Roman Kemp in an interview.

“I am still working on it and aiming to get better.
“The food here isn’t bad at all; I had lower expectations. Fish and chips are enjoyable, I can have them once a month. I want to enjoy the entire experience here.”
Calafiori marked his arrival with an impressive goal during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League on September 22, securing his place in the starting lineup.
The Gunners will resume their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on October 19, with Calafiori having played 90 minutes in two matches for Italy in the UEFA Nations League recently.
