After nearly a year since the death of Matthew Perry, known for his role in Friends, his loved ones have started to speak publicly about their loss.
In a recent conversation, Perry’s sister, Caitlin Morrison, along with his stepfather, Keith Morrison, shared their feelings of sorrow and how they aim to keep his memory alive.
They are particularly focused on honoring Matthew’s legacy by supporting efforts for those dealing with addiction, something that Perry faced throughout his life.
Caitlin Morrison, aged 43, has been instrumental in this mission as the executive director of the Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada.
This organization complements the existing Matthew Perry Foundation in the U.S., concentrating on aid for individuals struggling with addiction.
In her discussion with Hello! Canada, Caitlin expressed that her work with the foundation helps her feel closely connected to Matthew.
She stated, “I feel like I’m sitting right next to Matthew, working every day on something that mattered to him,” and remarked that it is a cherished experience for her.
Furthermore, Keith Morrison, 77, Matthew’s stepfather, mirrored Caitlin’s feelings, noting that Perry would be proud of these initiatives.
“He would want to be remembered for making a difference in the lives of people struggling with addiction,” Keith emphasized, highlighting the family’s intent to transform their grief into meaningful efforts.
A Committed Legacy for Hope
Following the sudden passing of Perry, the Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada was established on November 3, 2023, shortly after his death.
The foundation’s mission is to assist those impacted by addiction, a cause that was significant to Perry. His mother, Suzanne, along with other notable figures, including his close friend Brian Murray and mental health professional Cara Vaccarino, are on the board of directors.
The family shared their desire to honor Matthew’s memory in a statement at the foundation’s launch: “As a family, we aim to preserve Matthew’s legacy. We take pride in the potential of the Matthew Perry Foundation to aid those afflicted by this condition.”
As they advance this vital mission, the family aspires to leverage Matthew Perry‘s influence to positively change the lives of individuals grappling with addiction.
While his life was cut short, his spirit and compassion will continue through the foundation, bringing hope and assistance to those in need and ensuring that Matthew Perry‘s kindness and resilience will impact lives for many years ahead.
