The police in Bauchi State have detained four people related to the death of a two-year-old girl in the Ningi area.
It is alleged that the child was raped before her death.
Those arrested include the mother, 17-year-old Lauratu Saleh, and the father, 23-year-old Abubakar Usman. Additionally, a chemist who provided medical help and a relative who helped move the child’s body have also been taken into custody.
The police spokesperson, Ahmed Wakili, reported that these arrests followed an extensive investigation.
Wakili spoke to the media during a press conference at the police headquarters on Friday, indicating that the investigation led to the suspects’ detention, who are now cooperating with authorities to clarify the details of the case.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that a medical professional from the Ningi General Hospital detected signs of sexual assault on the deceased, prompting a deeper inquiry into the associated rape allegations.
It is essential to note that just two days ago, the body of the two-year-old was discovered wrapped in cloth and abandoned near a mosque in the Newada area of Ningi, which is the administrative center of Ningi LGA.
