The announcement of the Moana live action film has generated a lot of buzz as audiences anticipate Catherine Lagaaia portraying the lead role. However, attention has shifted towards Dwayne Johnson and speculation about his appearance in a body suit as filming gets underway.
The Rock plays the character Maui, a demigod from Polynesian mythology who assists the protagonist in a quest to restore the goddess of nature’s heart. Maui is famously characterized by his tattoos, flowing hair, and well-developed physique.
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 260 pounds, the former NFL player and renowned wrestler seems ideally suited for the role, needing only a wig to complete his transformation. He previously voiced the character in the 2016 animated film.
Nonetheless, fans are questioning the authenticity of his appearance based on some leaked set photos from Hawaii, suspecting that the 52-year-old may be wearing a body suit.
One user commented on X.com, previously Twitter, saying, “The Rock and skinny don’t belong in the same sentence, but it does look like a body suit.”
Another user chimed in, “Is The Rock really that big or is he in a body suit?”
Yet another remarked, “You got The Rock and then covered him in a body suit? No way!”
Is Johnson wearing a body suit?
It remains uncertain whether Johnson, who has been acting since 1999, is indeed donning a body suit or if he is just naturally muscular. Playing a demigod might require heightened physical attributes from the director’s perspective.
Fans speculate that the arms might be the reason for the body suit rumors since his biceps appear larger than usual, although it is possible for actors to achieve significant muscle mass.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for instance, actors like Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, and Dave Bautista as Drax have all had to struggle to maintain their imposing physiques as they’ve aged. This is one reason Bautista and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) stepped away from their roles, although Jackman has made a comeback.
