The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, Dr. Eric Odo, has declared intentions to arrest and hold accountable parents who allow their children to sell goods during school hours.
During the launch of the Public School Supervision Committee (PSSC) on November 25, Odo emphasized his commitment to enhancing public schools within the area as a means to combat the issue of children being out of school.
He tasked the PSSC with ensuring the enrollment of all out-of-school children, promising that the council would furnish them with essentials like uniforms, backpacks, and sandals to help achieve this goal.
Odo stated that there is no justification for any child to be absent from school.
“Every child must return to school, and we will work to revive the educational system. If necessary, we will provide medical care for sick children and offer one meal per day for students,” he affirmed.
He concluded with a stern warning to parents who permit their children to hawk instead of attending school, stating that legal action would be taken against them.
