John Tinniswood
The Guinness World Records has reported the passing of the oldest man in the world at the remarkable age of 112.
John Tinniswood was born in Liverpool, England, on August 26, 1912, and was a devoted fan of Liverpool FC, having been born shortly after the club’s establishment.
He passed away on November 25 at a care facility in Southport, according to Guinness World Records.
His family shared, “His final day was filled with music and affection.”
They continued, “John was always grateful. So on his behalf, we thank everyone who supported him through the years, including his caretakers at Hollies Care Home, his doctors, nurses, therapists, and other NHS professionals.”
In April 2024, he became the oldest living man at the age of 111 after the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Perez from Venezuela.
Mr. Tinniswood attributed his health to practicing moderation. He said, “Too much drinking, eating, or even walking can lead to problems in the long run.”
When reflecting on his secret to living long after turning 112, he credited it mainly to “luck.”
He mentioned, “I don’t think I have any notable secrets.” He recalled being active in his youth, enjoying walks, but humbly noted, “I’m just like everyone else.”
Mr. Tinniswood met his wife, Blodwen, at a dance in Liverpool, and they shared 44 years of marriage until her passing in 1986.
He is survived by his daughter Susan, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, making him the fourth-oldest British man ever recorded.
His family remarked, “John possessed numerous admirable qualities. He was intelligent, decisive, brave, and calm in crises, skilled in math, and a wonderful conversationalist.”
They added, “John moved to Hollies Care Home just before he turned 100, and his kindness and zest for life inspired both the staff and his fellow residents.”
