Ikenga Ugochinyere, who serves as the representative for Ideato North and South in the House of Representatives, is optimistic that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State will successfully secure another term in the 2027 elections.
Ugochinyere warned that any attempt by external forces in Abuja to control the federal allocation for Rivers State would lead to significant security issues within the state.
Speaking to his constituents in Akokwa, within the Ideato North local government area of Imo State, he emphasized that the efforts by 27 lawmakers from Rivers State to take over the state’s House of Assembly are doomed to fail. He pointed out that these lawmakers switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a period when there was no internal strife in their original party.
He further accused these lawmakers of having ulterior motives, intending to use their new power base to initiate an impeachment process against Governor Fubara.
“Can they promise that if they cut the federal allocation to Rivers, there will still be security and salaries for teachers and public servants?”
“Their goal is to destabilize the region and pave the way for the governor’s impeachment. However, I assure you, Fubara will run again and he will win in 2027,” Ugochinyere stated.
The PDP lawmaker also urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to intervene and ensure that justice is served concerning the matters affecting Rivers State.
