Mikel Obi Calls for Action at Arsenal

Former Chelsea player John Mikel Obi believes that Arsenal should consider dismissing their manager, Mikel Arteta, if he fails to secure the Premier League title this season.

Obi pointed out that since Arteta became head coach in December 2019, he has made investments totaling £800 million in the transfer market.

Despite his previous experience as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, Arteta has not yet managed to clinch the Premier League title during his tenure at Arsenal.

He has come close in the past two seasons, finishing as a runner-up to Manchester City on both occasions.

On the Obi One Podcast, Mikel expressed skepticism about Arsenal’s chances of winning the title this upcoming season.

The former Super Eagles captain stated: “This title is Liverpool’s to lose. I don’t see Arsenal winning it. If Mikel Arteta doesn’t win the league next season, I believe he should leave the club.”

“After almost seven seasons and an expenditure nearing 800 million, I do not believe they will win the title this year.”

“If he cannot secure the title next season, he should consider stepping down because City will be stronger.”

Currently, Arsenal is positioned second in the Premier League standings, trailing Liverpool by 6 points after 20 matches, with Liverpool holding a game in hand.
