Bam Margera has announced that he is no longer drinking, amid claims that he is a meth addict. The 43-year-old former professional skateboarder and MTV star made the announcement on Instagram on Friday, saying that he was doing it “for the sake of Phoenix the wolf”, his 5-year-old son with estranged wife Nicole Boyd.
In February, Boyd had filed for separation, believing that Margera would be hanging around their child while under the influence. She also refused to let him see the child until he got clean.
The post was accompanied by a photo of Margera holding what appeared to be a bottle of alcohol. In a separate post, Margera responded to his brother’s claims that he was high on meth after the two got into an altercation and the drummer pressed charges for assault. He posed outside of an Urgent Care and flipping off the camera, holding what appeared to be drug test results. He claimed that the tests were negative.
In response to former basketball player Lamar Odom’s offer to get clean at his new California rehab facility free of charge, Margera accepted and said “Yes, I do want your help.” He has since pleaded not guilty to the several charges he faces, and is scheduled to return to court on May 25 for another preliminary hearing.
The former reality star has faced serious legal issues and struggled with mental health in the past years. He was arrested for public intoxication in March and was issued a temporary restraining order in April after allegedly threatening a man’s life. In 2019, he disclosed that he had been diagnosed with manic bipolar disorder.
