Mod Sun is releasing a heartbreak anthem just one day after news broke that his ex-fiancée, Avril Lavigne, had called it quits with Tyga.
The new song, however, seems to be a reference to his own breakup with the “Sk8ter Boi” singer.
“I remember loving you before we ever met / Saw you on a TV then I met you through a friend,” Mod Sun, whose real name is Derek Smith, sang in an Instagram video shared on Wednesday.
“Then I started talking to you on the internet / Went from strangers to lovers to strangers again.”
In the clip, Sun walked down a street in Paris, which is notably the same city where he proposed to Lavigne on March 2022.
As Page Six previously reported, Lavigne called off her engagement to Sun in February 2023, nearly a year after the “Flames” singer popped the question in the City of Love.
It is unclear what led to the split, but TMZ reported that infidelity had nothing to do with their decision to end things. Just days before their split, Lavigne had been spotted with her most recent beau, Tyga, at a cozy dinner.
At the time, a rep for Sun told Page Six that he was blindsided by Lavinge’s decision to end their engagement — which came while the singer was on his “God Save the Teen” tour.
“They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour, so if anything has changed, that’s news to him,” his rep told us.
However, a source now tells us exclusively that Sun “wasn’t [actually] blindsided by the breakup,” adding that Lavigne was “right” for ending her relationship with him.

When the two ended their engagement, they had been on and off for some time already.
Despite releasing his new song about Lavigne, the source tells us that “he has no interest or care in looking backward and has far moved on from that situation.”
A rep for Sun did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
As for Lavigne’s latest romance, she and Tyga reportedly called it quits just four months after they went official in March.
According to TMZ, the two decided to go their separate ways a few weeks ago.
However, the outlet also reported that there are no hard feelings between the two and that the relationship had merely run its course.
