BUZZ: The many meanings behind Kate Middleton’s Trooping the Colour 2023 outfit

For her first Trooping the Colour as the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton opted for an vibrant look that honored her husband, her mother-in-law, her country and her colonelcy all at once.

At Saturday’s ceremony, the royal stood out in an emerald green coat dress by Singapore-born designer Andrew Gn, a designer new to her wardrobe.

The pick appeared to be a nod to Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, which will hold is annual ceremony in the Asian country come November.

Middleton, 41, accessorized with a matching Philip Treacy hat, sapphire-and-diamond earrings that previously belonged to Princess Diana and a gold Cartier shamrock brooch set with a single emerald, which she often wears on St. Patrick’s Day.

The pin belongs to the Irish Guards and is regularly loaned out to royal women associated with the regiment, per The Court Jeweller.

Seeing as the Princess of Wales recently succeeded her husband as the Colonel of the Irish Guards, it was a particularly fitting piece to select for Saturday’s festivities.

The princess’ decision to sport head-to-toe green was also a nod to the regiment, as well as to her homeland; green is a dominant hue in the Wales flag, which depicts a red dragon on a green-and-white field.

And Middleton wasn’t the only member of the Wales family opting for flag dressing at Trooping the Colour.

Sons Prince George, 9, and Prince Louis, 5, both wore red ties, while daughter Princess Charlotte, 8, looked adorable in a collared white dress featuring a scarlet bow and piping.

Prince William, meanwhile, donned his mostly-red military uniform for the occasion, completing the crew’s salute to Wales.
