James Franco Reflects on End of Friendship with Seth Rogen Amid Controversy

James Franco admits friendship with Seth Rogen 'is over' amid allegations

James Franco, who has collaborated closely with Seth Rogen for many years, has announced that their friendship has ended following accusations of sexual misconduct that surfaced in 2018. During a promotional event for his new film, Franco discussed the breakdown of his relationship with Rogen, mentioning that they have not been in touch since these allegations arose.

In an interview with Variety, Franco reflected on his long-standing friendship with Rogen, which began when they worked together on Freaks and Geeks in 1999 and continued through several hits like Pineapple Express and The Interview. He expressed fond feelings, saying, “I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth; we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over,” admitting he has already communicated how much their friendship meant to him.

Seth Rogen distanced himself from Franco in a 2021 interview after Franco settled a lawsuit related to allegations of sexual exploitation made by former students from his acting school. Rogen stated he does not support abusive behavior or harassment and would not maintain relationships with anyone accused of such acts.

Multiple women have accused Franco of inappropriate behavior while he was teaching, claiming he misused his position. Following these claims, Franco’s acting career stalled, leading him to take a four-year break from Hollywood.

Franco is excited to be back in action

During his time away from the spotlight, Franco mentioned he worked on personal development and reassessing his life choices. “I’m so grateful to be working,” he stated, noting that his time out allowed him to focus on necessary changes. He also mentioned that the pandemic impacted everyone’s work situation during that period.

His return to the film industry began in 2022 with the drama Me, You, directed by Bille August. Now, with his second film since returning, Franco is carefully navigating his way back into the industry, recognizing that his time away was crucial for his self-reflection. “I had to change my whole way of life,” he emphasized, highlighting his commitment to modifying his behavior and outlook.

Even though his collaboration with Rogen has ended, Franco remains grateful for their many shared experiences.
