Nikki Glaser, the acclaimed comedian who hosted the 2025 Golden Globes, recently discussed some of the edgier jokes she chose not to share during her ceremony monologue. In a chat with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show, the 40-year-old comedian highlighted two bold lines that were cut, one targeting Ben Affleck and another involving accused murderer, Luigi Mangione, former CEO of United Healthcare.
Glaser expressed her temptation to take a swing at Affleck’s romantic history with two well-known Jennifers: Garner and Lopez. The joke she considered was, “Here’s to Ben Affleck, I can’t wait to see which Jennifer you try to ruin next.” Although Glaser found it clever, she felt it might not fit the celebratory atmosphere of the event.
I argued like, ‘Oh, I didn’t say ruin them. I said he tried to ruin them,’ so it’s not against them,” Glaser elaborated to Stern. “But I was like, ‘That would have been insane.’
Affleck, who has just completed his second divorce from Jennifer Lopez after a two-year union, has a well-known romantic timeline that started with Lopez back in 2002. Their first engagement ended in 2004. He later tied the knot with Jennifer Garner in 2005, separated by 2015, and finalized their divorce in 2017.
Missed Jokes about Luigi Mangione and Glen Powell
Another joke that was shelved compared Glen Powell, who was up for Hit Man, to Mangione, whose case gained a lot of media attention earlier. However, audiences didn’t find the quip effective. “Luigi was a hot topic for a while, but it sort of lost steam,” Glaser noted.
Instead, Glaser chose a different punchline during the event regarding Powell: “Glen Powell, what a year you’ve had. Oh, my God, Glen, you’ve been in everything: ‘Twisters,’ ‘Hit Man,’ my head when I’m having sex with my boyfriend,” she humorously remarked.
Even with the omission of some bold material, Glaser received acclaim for her monologue, which featured sharp humor about Timothée Chalamet, Wicked, and Joker 2. Her confident performance resonated well with fans and critics alike, highlighting that she can leave a mark without going for the most provocative shots.
